I started developing unpredictable nerve pain in my left leg early last year. Over time it We have a cat that is on daily gabapentin for hyperesthesia and probably will be for a long time. She’s on a low dose twice a day, but our vet told us it is pretty safe long term. Like another commenter said, I’d suggest consulting a behaviorist. Increased diziness, fatigue, and slight shortness of breath (especially when exercising). Increased or decreased appetite, increased short term, decreased over long term use. laziness, lack of motivation, much easier time falling asleep. Interactions with many other drugs: In addition to being used to treat pain, gabapentin is used off label to treat anxiety, alcohol use disorder (AUD), alcohol withdrawal, depression, substance use disorders (SUDs), sleep problems, and more. However, the data to support these off-label uses of gabapentin are mixed, especially for long-term use. My brain feels like swiss cheese on gabapentin most days AND my long term memory is fried (I just feel like an asshole for the things I forget these days, important events in others lives etc). While it helps many people manage their symptoms, long-term use can lead to serious physical and mental health challenges. Early effects were balance and loss of short term memory, #1 effect is ongoing and #2 has largely dissipated. Long term use increases dementia risk 70%, but I need 1800 mg/day to not have horrid effects.
