Gabapentin works great for anxiety initially, it's a good anxiolytic that distracts you from your other symptoms. However, I noticed it had some pretty bad side effects. It tends to disinhibit thought, meaning that random, useless thoughts can start racing through your head (although it probably won't bother you at first). I’m prescribed it for two reasons, PTSD and nerve pain - it works wonders for the latter on its own, but certainly needs a boost from a good antidepressant for the former. I've been reading medical papers about gabapentin's efficacy on panic disorder and PTSD. It seems like a decent possible alternative to benzo's and it doesn't cross that arbitrary "controlled substance" line so I can maybe negotiate it? Considering taking Lamictal and Gabapentin for Mood disorder. But anxious and unsure how I feel about taking a new psych medication.
