I am desperate for any relief from the discomfort in my throat (edit: caused by Distal Esophageal Spasms) and I know it is a safe nerve pain medication. Basically, you might have the sensation that you have "too much" mucus/cough, but it could just be oversensitivity of the vagus nerve which can be addressed via a drug such as Gabapentin or low-dose (off-label) antidepressants (as mentioned in the reddit post). Example weight gain , medicine like gabapentin is known for sleep apnea and you need to get a dbq and a Nexus tying all this to sleep apnea. Also need the all ready service connected disability. Could you talk to your doctor about that? 300 mg Gabapentin as needed 3x daily. Baclofen 5mg as needed 3x daily. I don’t take them every day, just when I feel symptoms are particularly awful. I want to know if anyone has experience with these meds specifically for GERD. Positive or negative, and also want a general consensus about the safety of taking these prescriptions. Based on the mechanisms underlying gastroesophageal reflux and the blockade of TLESRs by baclofen, we speculated that baclofen would be superior to gabapentin for treatment of refractory GERC at this stage of the study design even though both have nonspecific central antitussive action (Figure 2). Unfortunately, the final results of comparable therapeutic efficacy between gabapentin and I believe I have had chronic reflux since at least 2002 but started Gabapentin in 2016. The medication definitely hides my symptoms but doesn’t make it better or worse once discontinuing. I’m on 300mg Gabapentin daily for GERD and Distal Esophageal Spasms. I'm testing a low dose Gabapentin now. 100mg 3 per day, and will work up to 300mg 3 per day over a few weeks. It's only been a few days but not feeling much difference. I read some positive reviews of Amitriptyline on here so thinking I may try that next. I don't get in to see my gastroenterologist until Sept 28, but I have some questions about taking Gabapentin for what *might* be hypersensitive esophagus. The surgeon who gave it to me wasn't too knowledgeable on the topic and didn't have answers to my questions. I'm testing low dose gabapentin now but read your post from a couple years ago that it didn't do anything for you. If you don't mind me asking are you still taking amitriptyline? The other medication he recommended was Gabapentin which I've heard pretty dangerous things about. Has anyone had any luck with this and is willing to share their story?
