History of Neurontin The active ingredient of Neurontin, Gabapentin, was first discovered in 1970 in Japan. The Japanese was, at the time, looking for a muscle relaxer, or anti-spasmodic. The chemical was later sold to Warner - Lambert / Pfizer conglomerate, Parke - Davis, who realized the medications effective in treating the symptoms of epilepsy. DESCRIPTION Neurontin® (gabapentin) Capsules, Neurontin (gabapentin) Tablets, and Neurontin (gabapentin) Oral Solution are supplied as imprinted hard shell capsules containing 100 mg, 300 mg, and 400 mg of gabapentin, elliptical film-coated tablets containing 600 mg and 800 mg of gabapentin or an oral solution containing 250 mg/5 mL of gabapentin. Do not take gabapentin capsules if you are allergic to gabapentin or any of the other ingredients in gabapentin capsules.
