Gabapentin for chronic tension headache/pressure? Long story short: I have had a constant sensation of "head pressure" for 10+ years, and in recent years, adding "neck/back pressure" and other aches and pains to the list. Gabapentin also dramatically worsened my migraines. Nothing worked to treat or prevent them while I was on it. Stopped gabapentin, and my Botox treatments started working again. Obviosuly not a doctor and YMMV but I've had no issues with gabapentin at low doses (like 300-600-900 mg max). It helps with sleep which is a migraine trigger, it doesn't really kill the migraine itself but can help to dull the pain enough to fall asleep. I use it in conjunction with triptans, Advil,e tc. My migraines are stress-induced, and gabapentin is also prescribed for anxiety, so maybe the reduced stress levels are what make it work in my instance. Mine are too. I take G at the first sign of a tension/stress headache and it prevents the headache from progressing into a migraine. Great stuff. The documentation says alcohol enhances the drowsiness and dizziness which are the main side effects, but I'd say the gabapentin enhances the effect of alcohol, including speeding up the hangover headaches.
